Let me introduce myself. My name is Bobbi Guerra, and I live in Little Rock, Arkansas with my husband David. We are native New Yorkers who moved South in 1973.
My interest in hand crafted soap and toiletries is an outgrowth of my quest to find natural remedies for home use. The highlight of this quest was my apprenticeship with Rosemary Gladstar at Sage Mountain Herbal Retreat Center in Vermont.
I attended a one week intensive workshop in herbal healing during the summers of 1997 and 1998. At one of these sessions we did a natural spa night. That same week we made a batch of soap, and I was hooked.
Since then I have been making all natural hand crafted soap with herbs and essential oils. In the last few years I have added a line of fragrance oils to my soap making in response to my customer requests.
My first attempt at making soap was in a 12 quart pot on the stove. My husband, daughter and I took turns stirring this batch for more than three hours. It was the last batch of hot process soap I ever made on the stove. Today we use the old fashioned cold process method of soap making for all our batches.
Every batch of natural hand crafted soap that I make is a treat for me. I choose the oils, butters, herbs, and create a blend of essential oils. In some bars we include organic honey, organic oats or cosmetic clays. Removing a batch of soap from the mold is like unwrapping a present.
We cure our bars in a drying room for a minimum of four weeks before shaping and polishing. They get lots of tender loving care before we wrap and send them to our customers.
Once I started making natural soap, I wanted to offer other hand made products to complement the soap. What started out as production of natural soap, bath salts and herbal salves has evolved into making a line of complementary products. Some of these are: Shea Butter Body Silk™ Luxury Lotion, Emu Oil lotion bars, EMU/MSM Creams, face creams, salt glow body scrubs and essential oil misters.
While striving to keep my products as natural as possible I have progressed into using high quality mineral colors and fragrance oils that are approved for use in cosmetics. My natural hand crafted soaps are all vegetarian with the exception of a bar or two that contains Emu Oil.
Use of animal products is a personal choice. Emu Oil is a product that I believe in. It is the only animal oil I use. I do use bees wax in my lotion bars. These I make for customers who do not want to use any chemicals. They are lightly scented with essential oils or fragrance oils. Goat Milk is another animal product that has skin care benefits. We use Goat Milk in some of our bar soap.
